Amigurumi Java JDuchess or Duke

Amigurumi crochet pattern to make a Java Duchess or JMan Duke

Materials:
Yarn: white, black, red and pink
Hook a size smaller than listed on the yarn, I've used '4mm' yarn and a 3.5mm hook.
Tapestry needle
Fiber fill

Terms:
St - Stitch
Ch - Chain
Sc - Single crochet
Hdc - Half double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
2in1sc - Increase, 2 sc in 1 sc
Sc2tog - sc 2 stitches together (decrease)
inv dec - Invisible decrease

Instructions:

Body:
Black
1) Ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from the hook (or use a "magic adjustable ring") (6)
2) 2in1 around (12)
Mark beginning of round with yarn or a marker. Let's call this the "front"
3-12) 1 2in1 inc, scs around to the "back", 1 2in1 inc, scs to complete the round (32)
Switch color to white, don't care if the change doesn't look good, this is were the nose will be placed later.
13-22) 1 2in1 inc, scs around to the back, 1 2in1 inc, scs to complete the round (52)
Drag the top end into the body if it isn't already.
Stuff the body firmly with fiber fill, shape as you wish

Leg 1:
Make the next sc from the front to the back, to divide the body in two halfs. (make sure to count that you get an equal number of stitches on each half)

1) Sc around to the front
Continue crocheting around the leg you've started: sc 2, inv dec, sc around until 4 st left of round, inv dec, sc 2. Stop when you have about 18 st left.
Stuff leg
Next round) *1 Inv dec, 1 sc*
Next round) Inv dec around. Now you probably have 6 st left.
Pull through the yarn, cut off a long end.
Weave through sts of last row to close.
Fasten yarn and cut off or hide in the body using the needle.

Leg 2:
Put the hook through the first free st to the left of the first leg, pull through a loop of yarn
1) sc around, sc in the first st of leg 1 to make sure there's no whole between the legs
2-) repeat steps from leg 1

Nose:
Red yarn
1) Ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook
2) 2in1 around (12)
3) [1 sc, 2in1] * 6 - (18)
4) sc around (18)
Stuff the nose
5) [1 sc, inv dec] * 6
6) inv dec around
Pull through the yarn, cut off a long end.
Weave through sts of last row to close.

Bow:
Pink
Chain 50, hdc in third chain from hook, hdc along row

Arms * 2:
Black
Ch 20,
Sl st 4 (finger 1)
[Ch 4, sl st 4] * 3 (finger 2-4)
Sc back to the start, cut of yarn and pull through.

Assembly:
Sew nose the black/white color switch on the body
Sew arms on side on the last black round
Make 6 loops of yarn around your hand, tie a knot with a piece of yarn around the middle, sew onto top of head, cut through the end of the loops
Tie a bow around the hair, sew onto hair/head if you want.

I've named the first amigurumi duchess 'Jenny', give yours a J-name as well if you like to.


To make a Duke: Skip the hair and bow, make a bigger nose
To make a JMan Duke: Make a cloak of dark blue yarn. Make the hat/mask of dark red yarn. Embroider white eyes and a J. Complete Instructions to come
